ACT I : The Introduction

The play opens with three children, two boys and a girl, ages 7, 8, and 9, respectively, sitting in the woods and casually talking. Soon, they will be getting ready to accompany a young narrator host on a fantastic journey to the Wiz Kid Galaxy. The oldest child, Chris, will ultimately introduce the other children to the host, and the host will then invite them all to go on a learning journey through the Wiz Kid Galaxy to a destination called Wiz Kid Land.

After the introduction to the host is made, the children will enter a spaceship which is in a barn hidden off in the woods. This is the ship which will be piloted by the host to take the children on this journey. Upon entering the ship, they will all marvel at the gadgetry lining the cockpit panel. The host will get them ready for the trip by gently and carefully seating each one, and securing the seat belt device. The host will then start the spaceship to flight.

The windows lining the side walls of the ship will permit the children to glimpse the meteors, stars, and planets as they pass through space.  When they come near to the Wiz Kid Galaxy, the host will point out some of the planets: Planet Algebra, Planet Geometry, and Planet Calculus. The host will tell them that their destination is Wiz Kid Land but that these planets..which contain additional secrets relative to the world of mathematics, fascinating secrets indeed..will be visited in later journeys, once the children have learned the fundamentals taught in Wiz Kid Junior and Wiz Kid I.

As the children see the planets, they will notice that each one has a unique and distinguishing feature: Planet Algebra has three colorful rings, Planet Geometry has circles, ellipses and triangles sticking out of it, and Planet Calculus has some strange symbols floating in its atmosphere. The host will explain that as they approach each planet, formulas specific to that subject discipline will be seen orbiting the planet.

After an orbiting rendezvous with these planets, the host will tell the children to reenter their seats because they will be entering the atmosphere of Wiz Kid Land. As the spaceship enters the atmosphere, numbers will be seen flying through space; each number appearing in the color according to historical belief about the inherent color properties of the numbers, that is,

1 = RED
2 = ORANGE
3 = YELLOW
4 = GREEN
5 = BLUE
6 = BLUE
7 = VIOLET
8 = ROSE
9 = ALL COLORS 6 RAINBOW
10 = BLACK

As the children peer out the windows, they will see the operations of addition (+),  multiplication (x), division (÷), and subtraction (-). The children will gasp as a few multiplication and addition problems whiz by the spaceship.

After a thirty-minute flight, the spaceship will start to descend and come to a landing. As the spaceship comes to a stop, the children will be belted in their seats with eager looks on their faces. The door of the spaceship will open and the children will all marvel at the view of Wiz Kid Land. Trees and other objects will be in the form of numbers and other mathematical entities. The kids will be taking in the sights with awestruck expressions on their faces. As they stare at the landscape of Wiz Kid Land, the host will point to the horizon where the Wiz Kid character will be flying toward them. The oldest child, Chris, will tell the other two kids, what a great friend Wiz Kid is.  Suddenly Wiz Kid will land directly in front of the children and the journey through Wiz Kid Land will begin.

Act I

[Kelly, Mat, and Chris are sitting by a tree in a lightly wooded area. Mat is examining with scrutiny a rock in his hand; Kelly is analyzing the tree, while Chris is looking pensively at the sky. As Chris is staring upward, he points out to the others a beautiful shooting star.]

Chris: Wow! that’s a Wiz Kid shooting star.

Kelly: What’s a Wiz Kid shooting star?, Chris.

Chris: [Mat looking curiously at Chris] A Wiz Kid shooting star is simply a shooting star that originates in the Wiz Kid Galaxy. There.s always all kinds of cosmic activity going on
there.

Mat: What’s the Wiz Kid Galaxy, Chris?

Chris: Oh, it’s a very special galaxy consisting of all kinds of the most fascinating planets where you learn the most incredible things from a very special teacher and friend called Wiz Kid. Would you like to go and see all this and meet this person?

Mat & Kelly: [in unison] Yeah! How?

Chris: Well, follow me. There’s someone I want you to meet.

[Mat and Kelly begin to follow Chris, who leads. After a short walk through the woods, the children come to a house with what appears to be a barn attached. Inside the barn is the Wiz Kid spaceship. Chris knocks on the door of the house and the host appears]

Host: Hello, Chris.

Chris:[To host] Hello. [To Mat and Kelly]. Mat and Kelly, I would like to introduce you to a very special friend of Wiz Kid.

Host: [To Mat and Kelly] Hello, hello [to Chris with excitement in his eyes] I take it you would like to share the the Wiz Kid experience with your friends.

Chris: Yes, I would.

Host: Well, let's go!
