To all my loyal subscribers, this goes out to inform you that mathbyjoe.com has published a host of interesting articles on mathematics and math education. These articles can be found on my website under the "Articles Tab," as well as on www.ezinearticles.com by doing a search on Joe Pagano.
Of the latest articles, one is titled "Why Study Math? - How About Solving Rubik's Cube," which discusses some of the curious mathematical properties of this famous puzzle. I'm sure many of you would be fascinated to know that you too can solve this mystifying brain-buster.
On a more advanced level, the article "Why Study Math? - Group Theory and Subparticle Physics" talks about how advanced mathematics plays a role in other disciplines, such as science; "Why Study Calculus? - Related Rates" discusses how a topic in calculus could possibly avert a very real disaster; "Why Study Calculus? - Volumes of Irregular Shapes" shows how the calculus can compute the exact volumes of very unusual solid objects; and and "Why Study Math? - Functions and Rules" discusses the oft used topic of functions and how these relate to real world models like falling bodies and compound interest.
For those of you who love astronomy and all of its glorious wonders, there is "Numbers - How Big is Big?" which talks about parsecs and lightyears and galaxies and all kinds of other mind-mesmerizing stuff. And for those teachers out there, "Teachers, Teach. Don't Preach" gives a hint as to how to motivate your students and get them passionate about your class and about learning in general.
So take a stroll on my articles page and check these writings out. At the very least, you will learn some good stuff; and who knows, you may start to feel differently about math. After all, that's what mathbyjoe.com is all about.
